120 years of tourism on Rab island

After Opatija, another 120 years anniversary follows!
This year the island of Rab, one of the most beautiful islands of the Adriatic Sea, marks a 120 years anniversary of organized tourism, which is quite an achievement.
Trasa Travel brings you this year’s schedule of festivities which will start on Wednesday, May 13th, and end on Saturday, May 16th 2009. We are looking forward to your visit.

08:30 PM – Humanitarian concert by Croatian prima donna Dunja Vejzovic, accompanied on the piano by Ðorde Stanetti – Rab Sports Hall

Thursday, May 14th 2009
07:00 PM – Manifestation “Tradition of hospitality on Rab” organized by Rab tourism high school Markantun de Dominis – Rab winter theatre

Friday, May 15th 2009
08:00 PM – Rab klapas (a capella bands) concert in St. John the Evangelist’s.
09:00 PM – Opening of the Rab Island Art Photography exhibition

Saturday, May 16th 2009
Celebration of the 120th anniversary of organized tourism on Rab!
12:00 PM – presentation of the Rab Crossbowmen
03:30 PM – opening of a newly-renovated beach as a symbol of the island’s famous history of beach tourism
06:30 PM – Start of festivities on St Christopher’s Square – Presentation of folklore, brass band music, the Kayak Club and “the barkarijoli” (Rab boatmen) – program presented by Robert Ferlin, a local radio star – musical entertainment by Vivak vocal and instrumental group, followed by a concert by Croatian superstar Oliver Dragojevic

Rab Fjera

Rab FjeraRab Fjera is a Historical reenactment celebrations lasting for 3 days during Dies Natalis of St. Christopher on island Rab in Croatia. Fjera (fair) includes the Medieval festival of crafts and customs and Archers’ crossbow tournament. It is held on the streets of the oldest part in the town of Rab. Visitors can enjoy in traditional crafts like pottery, painting, fishing, coinage, stitching, basket weaving, carpentry, sculpting or learn the secrets of trade from the florists, honey makers, herbalists or even from the cross-bow archers who are more than happy to explain the technique and the history of the crossbow. During these 3 days (25, 25th and 27th July) people also dress up in costumes and have open air workshops of the medieval life. The streets are run over with ladies, gentleness, medieval guards with prisoners. The festival culminates with the parade and the crossbow archers tournament on the St. Christopher’s square and with the cannon fireworks.
